AIDS Legal ServicesAIDS Legal Services has provided over 1,600 legal referrals to families and individuals in need of legal assistance. In addition to helping with wills, powers of attorney, and debt issues, AIDS Legal Services also provides assistance in the areas of insurance, employment, benefits, and family law issues such as helping parents to establish guardianships for their children. AIDS Legal Services operates with the assistance of over 50 volunteer attorneys, who are recruited and trained by the program. Clients who cannot afford an attorney receive free service, and those with the ability to pay are served on a sliding scale. AIDS Legal Services
AIDS Resources, Information & Services (ARIS)ARIS of Santa Clara County's mission is "To provide HIV/AIDS prevention and support services to the people of Santa Clara County." Among the services ARIS provides are: group and individual emotional support; practical assistance; transportation; monthly food baskets and nutritional supplements; housing, including a 24 hour residential care facility; HIV prevention education and community education. Bill Wilson Center HIV/AIDS Youth ProjectTwo Americans under the age of 20 become infected with HIV every hour of every day. Bill Wilson Center's HIV/AIDS Youth Project provides prevention and early intervention referral services to high-risk street youth, including gay and bisexual youth, sexual active youth, and youth who have been involved with drugs and/or survival sex. Through outreach, Bill Wilson Center works with young people to prevent the spread of HIV. Services include confidential HIV testing, risk assessment and early intervention, peer educator training, counseling, and Project Action, a social marketing program to encourage condom usage among sexually active youth. The Centre For Living With DyingThe Centre For Living With Dying's Circle of Care provides support to persons infected or affected by HIV disease. Volunteer peer counselors provide one on one support at home, at the Centre and in the hospital. Groups offer support to individuals journeying with HIV. Education is provided to schools, in the work place, hospitals and community agencies. The Centre serves men, women, and children from age 5 years old and up. American Red Cross AIDS ProjectThe American Red Cross AIDS Project targets HIV prevention education to more than 1,000 homeless adults and at risk youth each year. Our HIV Outreach worker provides one on one education at several sites including Food Closets, Urban Ministry Meals, and where Day Laborers wait for work. HIV Prevention Workshops are offered to outreach contacts and to high risk youth in group homes or alternative schools. Free HIV testing and support is available to our outreach contacts. Diocese of San Jose - AIDS ProjectA community-based model program, trains pastoral care workers to give AIDS information, spiritual and compassionate care to people with HIV, families and lay-caregivers in their respective communities. Over 800 individuals are available to serve people with HIV/AIDS through the 55 parishes or missions that cover all of Santa Clara County. With the assistance of the diocesan Pastoral Care Program the AIDS-Project provides resources and information to a variety of ethnic groups in the county. The San Jose Diocesan AIDS-Project also provides resources such as speakers, video, audio, and printed materials regarding HIV/AIDS to the Diocesan Detention Ministry that services the County Prison and Juvenile Hall. Family & Children ServicesFamily & Children Services is the newly formed non-profit agency resulting from the merger of the Adult and Child Guidance Center in San Jose and Family Service Mid-Peninsula in Palo Alto. The combined programs of the new agency are now available to residents of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. With more than 110 years of combined experience, Family and Children Services has a strong history of providing quality services throughout the Silicon Valley. The agency continues to offer comprehensive, affordable services to individuals, couples, and families, as well as collaborate with local schools, community-based organizations, county providers and corporations. Positive Resources of Santa Clara CountyPositive Resources is a community of peers that provides a safe environment to promote optimum health and well being for people living with HIV/AIDS. Positive Resources, located at the Neil A. Christie Living Center in the Rose Garden area of San Jose, is a drop-in community center, which provides workshops, classes, support groups and social activities for people living with HIV/AIDS. Health Connections AIDS ServicesHealth Connections AIDS Services serves 50 percent of the individuals diagnosed with AIDS in Santa Clara County. Grants and donations allow HCAS to provide services without charging the client. Nurses, social workers, and benefit counselors make home visits to assist clients in planning and arranging for services needed to be at home in lieu of hospitalization. Homemaker services, attendant care, Meals on Wheels, housing assistance, and provide emergency financial assistance to eligible clients. If health care service is needed in the home - think HCAS! Health Connections, AIDS Services Health Education & Training Center - El Pueblo Against AIDS Health Education and Training Center - El Pueblo Against AIDS provide an array of free services to Latinos with HIV and their loved ones, including emotional support, counseling, education, and case management. Our prevention program reaches out to the larger community, including youth and low income, ethnic communities. A special linkage with the University of California at San Francisco enables us to train health care workers to provide quality and compassionate care to persons with AIDS.
